Hollywood Killed the Fun Movie. Bollywood Never Did. | Chennai Express

Hollywood killed the mid-budget everything-movie — the film that's an action comedy and a road trip and a romance all at once, all working. Chennai Express, directed by Rohit Shetty with Shah Rukh Khan operating on a completely different frequency, is proof that Bollywood never stopped making it.

This is Frankenstein filmmaking done right — every genre bolted together by people who actually understand each one, all in service of pure entertainment. Deepika Padukone holds her own. The music is a highlight reel. The whole thing keeps you on your toes from start to finish.
